What are the VAT rates in the Gulf?
UAE 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%, Bahrain 10%, Oman 5%. Qatar and Kuwait have no VAT yet.
How do I take VAT out of a price?
Divide the price by 1 + the rate. In the UAE: price ÷ 1.05; in Saudi Arabia: price ÷ 1.15. The difference is the VAT.
Why is 15% of the total not the VAT in Saudi Arabia?
Because the 15% is on the price without VAT. In a VAT-inclusive price the VAT is 15 ÷ 115 = 13.04% of the total.
